A plate carrier is the vest that holds your armor plates against your body. It does not stop anything on its own — the plates do that. What the carrier decides is whether the protection you bought is comfortable enough to wear, fast enough to get into, and set up to carry the rest of your gear.
Plates and carriers are sold separately so you can match a plate to the way you actually carry it. If you want both together, the kits pair them.
A modular carrier lets you run exactly what the task needs and nothing more. Placards and components swap without rethreading MOLLE or tearing the carrier down, so one rig covers a range of jobs instead of committing you to a single configuration.

The placard is the front panel that carries your magazines. Ours is non-proprietary and hook-and-loop secured, so it comes off and goes back on in seconds and is not locked to our own accessories.
Or run totally slick. The point of a modular placard is that carrying nothing is also a configuration.
Fit the plates first and everything else follows. The plate should sit with its top edge roughly level with the top of your sternum — high enough to protect what matters, low enough that it does not foul your chin when you shoulder a rifle. Adjust the riser before you adjust anything else.
Then set the cummerbund for a snug fit with a layer underneath, mount the placard, and only then start hanging gear. Most badly set-up carriers were loaded before they were fitted.
Plates are sold by threat level. Trauma pads sit behind them; belts carry what the carrier should not.

No. The carrier is a vest that holds plates. The plates do the stopping. A carrier with no plates in it offers no ballistic protection whatsoever.
Size to the plates, then to your torso length rather than your chest measurement. The carrier adjusts in both directions, but the plate pocket has to match the plate you are running. Check the product page for which plate sizes each carrier takes.

Generally yes, provided the size and cut match. The carriers take standard plate sizes and the retention is adjustable. Fit varies with plate thickness, so a very thick plate in a carrier sized for a thin one will be tight.
A trauma pad sits between the plate and your body to manage backface deformation — the energy that comes through even when the plate stops the round. It is not required, and it is inexpensive relative to what it does.

Textiles are not American made but thats bc American greed and corrupt capitalism hinders small businesses from making a profitì on such things by outsourcing that labor for the past 40+ years. I just wanna give my humble opinion on this company and their customer service... They are some of the absolute best people i have ordered from. I bothered them numerous times, and even on the weekend! they always answered quickly and were kind courteous and professional. This is a great quality belt, sturdy, and comfortable to wear. I am a comercial/industrial & Residential maintenance Mechanic, I didnt nessisarly need a tactical belt, but I did need a belt I could keep all my tools, radio, flashlight, keys and equipment on permanently. I was tired of sliding everything onto my belt every morning and night. Now I clip and go. I buy a lot of stuff and this is probably my favorite purchase of the year.
I love this belt. It is well made and will hold up to a beating if it gets to that. I have only had one minor issue and that with the inner belt loosening a bit. I had some belt keepers and that seems to help when using the inner belt. It adjusts to help fit and is versatile with what you can put on it. Its very comfortable for range use but I havent tested it in a harder environment. Its functional in the sense you can use it over garments with the nonslip pad. Very affordable.
